I am a passionate environmentalist turned accidental business owner. I focus on sustainability and ethics, which at the moment, sadly, is a bit of a niche market. I want to help send those values surging into the mainstream focus. Our society needs to stop thinking that there is endless growth for profits. We can still grow, profit and be successful without the need to double or triple our output or sales and consumerism. We can sustain gradual growth, and lessen our impact while making more informed and sustainable choices. Buy locally, buy made in your country. Shop seasonally. If it's not easily accessible, request more local products. Insist.. harass if need be. The only way things will change is if we make our voices heard.
This is my first attempt at a public blog, so I will ask that you please bear with me. My intention here is simple; to share my knowledge on environmental and community sustainability, to learn more, to vent, to babble and to all around leave a mark. I've recently acquired a plot in my local community garden where I intend to begin growing food for my husband and I. I am also lucky enough to be self employed, and have the space in my shop to grow indoors as well. My ultimate goal over the next 5 years (hopefully acquiring more space as time goes on) is to be able to grow at least half of the produce that my husband and I consume, gardening year round.
Even the smallest ripple in the water can create a furious wave, so here goes my newest venture into the environmental revolution.
Question and evaluate everything.
